How to practice the Tsume Battle puzzles you missed
Last updated: October 21, 2026
When you couldn’t solve a Shogi Wars Tsume Battle puzzle, add its record to Shogi Analysis and it becomes your own problem that you can solve again any time. Copy the record with the copy icon on the game record screen, as with a normal game, and tap “Paste from clipboard”. Mates up to 7 moves become tsume puzzles you play out to checkmate, and mates of 9 moves or more become next move problems scored on the first move.
Steps
- Install Shogi Analysis — Get Shogi Analysis from the App Store or Google Play. No sign-up is needed.
- Copy the Tsume Battle record — In the Shogi Wars app, open the record of the Tsume Battle puzzle you couldn’t solve and tap the copy icon at the top of the screen. The record is copied to the clipboard.
- Paste it into Shogi Analysis — On the Games tab in Shogi Analysis, tap “Add games”, then tap “Paste from clipboard”. If the side to move has a mate in 15 or fewer moves, the position becomes a problem.
- Solve the problem — Solve it from “Auto practice” on the Review tab, or from the mate lengths (Mate in 1 to Mate in 7, Mate in 9+) in the “Problem set”.
Puzzles you missed vs. puzzles you solved
- A puzzle you missed — The record contains only the position. Shogi Analysis solves the mate in that position and creates one problem. The position is also added to your game list and can be opened in Analysis.
- A puzzle you solved — The record contains the moves you played. It is analyzed like a normal game, and you can go through it move by move in Analysis.
If you add just one record, Analysis opens as with a normal game, and the candidate moves (the answer) are visible. If you want to solve it yourself first, close Analysis and solve it from the Review tab.
How the problems work
- Tsume puzzles (mates up to 7 moves) — Play the mate all the way to checkmate. The app plays the defense that holds out longest, and any move that still mates within the remaining moves is correct. If you take a longer route to mate, you can undo and try again without it counting against you.
- Next move problems (mates of 9 moves or more) — Scored on the first move. If you play a mating move, you can keep going to checkmate.
- Review — After each answer, choose “Mastered” or “Review again”. Problems you got wrong come back 1, 3, 8 and 30 days later. Problems are saved on your phone, so you can solve them offline.
Good to know
- Adding the same position again doesn’t create another problem.
- Each position counts as one game toward the free plan (3 games a day).
- You can filter your game list to show only Tsume Battle records.
- Board diagrams and SFEN positions from other sources become problems the same way.
If a record won’t import
- A position with no mate in 15 or fewer moves for the side to move doesn’t become a problem.
- A record won’t import if you copy only part of it. Copy the whole record.
- If it still won’t import, please contact us and include the record.
