How to analyze shogi games with AI for free
Last updated: October 21, 2026
You can analyze up to 3 shogi games a day with AI for free by adding them to Shogi Analysis (an iPhone and Android app). No account or email address is needed. Games from Shogi Wars, Shogi Quest, Piyo Shogi, Lishogi, 81Dojo and others can be added, and a shogi engine on the server searches 1,000,000 nodes per position to show the win-rate graph, the best moves and the lines that follow.
How many games can I analyze for free?
The free plan analyzes up to 3 games a day. This counts all the games you add, from any game service. The Add games screen in the app shows how many games you have left today.
Can I analyze games on my phone alone?
Yes. You don’t need a computer. Analysis runs on the server, so your phone’s speed doesn’t matter, and a full game of about 100 moves takes about 10 seconds.
What do I get for free?
All of the analysis results are available on the free plan. Here is what you get:
- Win-rate graph — See the win rate after every move as a line. Tap a point to jump to that position.
- Where it went wrong — Inaccuracies, mistakes and blunders are judged by how much a move drops the win rate. When one side is already far ahead, the drop in the evaluation score is used as well.
- Best moves and lines — In any position, see the best move and the top 3 candidate moves with their eval and win rate, and replay the line on the board.
- Try a move — Move a piece on the board and the win rate after that move and your opponent’s replies are analyzed on the spot (3 games a day on the free plan, any number of moves within a game).
- Tsume puzzles and a problem set — Mates you missed (up to 7 moves) become tsume puzzles you play out to checkmate, and positions where you went wrong become your own problem set. There is no limit on how much you review.
For how to read the screen, see How to read a shogi game analysis.
How is it different from Premium?
The difference is how many games you can analyze and try moves in each day. With Premium (monthly or yearly), both are unlimited. The engine and the search depth (1,000,000 nodes per position) are the same on the free plan and on Premium. Prices are shown in your local currency in the app before you buy.
How is it different from the analysis inside Shogi Wars?
The Shogi Wars app has its own built-in analysis (called 棋神解析 in the Japanese app). Please check the Shogi Wars app for its terms. Shogi Analysis is a separate app (not an official Shogi Wars app): you copy your Shogi Wars game record and add it to Shogi Analysis to analyze it.
With Shogi Analysis you can:
- Analyze games from Shogi Quest, Piyo Shogi, Lishogi, 81Dojo and others in the same game list.
- Get analysis from YaneuraOu with the Suisho 5 evaluation function, running on the server, so your phone’s speed doesn’t matter.
- Analyze any move you try on the board, on the spot.
- Turn your missed mates and mistakes into your own tsume puzzles and problem set, and review them even offline.
How do I add a game?
Copy the game record in your game service’s app, then on the Games tab in Shogi Analysis, tap “Add games” and “Paste from clipboard”. Game files can be picked with “Choose a file”. For Shogi Wars, Shogi Quest and KIOU, you can also choose Shogi Analysis from the game’s Share menu.
For step-by-step instructions, see the guides for Shogi Wars, Shogi Quest, Piyo Shogi, Lishogi and 81Dojo.
Can I analyze Sprint and Tsume Battle records for free too?
Yes. Sprint and Tsume Battle records each count as one game, like any other game.
