How to analyze your Shogi Quest games

Last updated: October 21, 2026

To analyze a Shogi Quest game, open the game record screen in Shogi Quest, send the game record from the menu, and choose Shogi Analysis. Analysis starts as soon as the game is added, and the win-rate graph and best moves appear move by move as they finish.

Steps

  1. Install Shogi Analysis — Get Shogi Analysis from the App Store or Google Play. No sign-up is needed.
  2. Send the game record from Shogi Quest — In Shogi Quest, open the game record screen of the game you want to analyze, tap the menu button at the top right, and choose the item that sends the game record. The share sheet opens.
  3. Choose Shogi Analysis — Choose “Shogi Analysis” from the list of apps, and the game record is imported.
  4. Choose your name — The first time, you’re asked “Which player are you?”. Choose your player name. It’s remembered, so you won’t be asked again.
  5. Review the game — The game appears in your game list. Tap it to open Analysis and see the win-rate graph, best moves and lines.

You can also copy and paste

In the share sheet that opens when you send the game record, choose Copy. Then, in Shogi Analysis, tap “Add games” and “Paste from clipboard”.

About Shogi Quest game records

  • The rating after a player’s name (for example, Name(941)) changes from game to game, but you’re still recognized as the same player.
  • Shogi Quest game records don’t include the date and time of the game, so the game list shows the game under the day you imported it.

What you get from the analysis

  • Win-rate graph — See the win rate after every move as a line. Tap a point to jump to that position.
  • Where it went wrong — Inaccuracies, mistakes and blunders are judged by how much a move drops the win rate, not by the evaluation score.
  • Best moves and lines — In any position, see the best move and the top 3 candidate moves, and replay the line on the board.
  • Try a move — Move a piece on the board and the win rate after that move is analyzed on the spot.
  • Tsume puzzles and a problem set — Missed mates become tsume puzzles you play out to checkmate, and positions where you went wrong become your own problem set.

If a game won’t import

  • Supported formats are KIF, KI2 and CSA (plus USI/SFEN and JKF).
  • A game won’t import if you copy only part of the record. Copy the whole game record.
  • If it still won’t import, please contact us and include the game record.
