How to analyze your Lishogi games

Last updated: October 21, 2026

To analyze a Lishogi game, open the finished game on lishogi.org, copy the KIF from the Export tab below the board, then tap “Paste from clipboard” in Shogi Analysis. You can also download the KIF file and add it with “Choose a file”. Shogi Analysis then shows the win-rate graph, best moves and lines, and turns your own mistakes into tsume puzzles and a problem set.

Steps

  1. Install Shogi Analysis — Get Shogi Analysis from the App Store or Google Play. No sign-up is needed.
  2. Open the game on Lishogi — On lishogi.org, open the finished game you want to analyze.
  3. Copy the KIF — Below the board, open the Export tab (the share icon). Select all the text in the KIF box and copy it. To save a file instead, tap the KIF download button.
  4. Add it to Shogi Analysis — On the Games tab in Shogi Analysis, tap “Add games”, then tap “Paste from clipboard”. For a downloaded file, tap “Choose a file” and pick the .kif file.
  5. Choose your name — The first time, you’re asked “Which player are you?”. Choose your Lishogi username. It’s remembered, so you won’t be asked again.
  6. Review the game — The game appears in your game list. Tap it to open Analysis and see the win-rate graph, best moves and lines.

About Lishogi game records

  • Lishogi’s KIF puts each player’s rank before the name, in Japanese (for example, 四段 YourName). Shogi Analysis matches your username without the rank and without regard to upper or lower case, so your later games are recognized automatically.
  • If a record has no player names Shogi Analysis can use, you’re asked “Are you Sente (Black) or Gote (White)?”.
  • Pasting a Lishogi game link doesn’t work. Game links can be imported only from Shogi Wars, Shogi Quest and KIOU, so copy the KIF instead.
  • Only standard shogi can be analyzed. Variants such as minishogi, Kyoto shogi and chu shogi can’t be imported, and handicap games aren’t analyzed.
  • To import several games at once, download their KIF files and pick up to 50 at a time with “Choose a file”. Duplicates are skipped automatically.

What you get from the analysis

  • Win-rate graph — See the win rate after every move as a line. Tap a point to jump to that position.
  • Where it went wrong — Inaccuracies, mistakes and blunders are judged by how much a move drops the win rate, not by the evaluation score.
  • Best moves and lines — In any position, see the best move and the top 3 candidate moves, and replay the line on the board.
  • Try a move — Move a piece on the board and the win rate after that move is analyzed on the spot.
  • Tsume puzzles and a problem set — Missed mates become tsume puzzles you play out to checkmate, and positions where you went wrong become your own problem set.

If a game won’t import

  • Supported formats are KIF, KI2 and CSA (plus USI/SFEN and JKF).
  • A game won’t import if you copy only part of the record. Copy all the text in the KIF box.
  • If it still won’t import, please contact us and include the game record.
